American Robin

From All About Birds
An American Robin can produce three successful broods in one year. On average, though, only 40 percent of nests successfully produce young. Only 25 percent of those fledged young survive to November. From that point on, about half of the robins alive in any year will make it to the next. Despite the fact that a lucky robin can live to be 14 years old, the entire population turns over on average every six years.

I love these birds and we have them here as well. Every year one pair will make a nest in the garden. Sad to say most don’t survive due to Jays and/or crows. One Robing returned for two years in a row and became very friendly (for a Robin) as I fed her/him worms! When they get here in spring they look pretty tattered and exhausted.
Great photo Pat and thanks for the information on them.

  8. It does not matter what is blooming in your garden, it is not spring until the first robin arrives. When that happens you know and you can start to breathe normally again, you stop holding on and waiting…Your photo is greatly appreciated.
