I have always loved to watch them spiraling through the air. You’ve got to admire the way they imbed themselves into the ground. One of nature’s perfect designs.

i miss maple trees. they were plentiful in Wisconsin, but nothing here in Texas…
Yes, this is amazing! I’ve seen some different types of seeds that ‘fly’ and I couldn’t agree more with you as to nature perfect designs. When I was visiting Chichén-Itzá one of those landed at my feet and I kept it but had no chance to identify it. Years later a found out it’s a Liana seed.
I think we are going to have bumper crops in many things with the warm winter and early spring. We have oodles of maples here. Nice whirlybirds! Margie

What a beautiful shot, Pat! They are abundant here this year, too, those delightful keys that are the key to new trees.
As kids we stuck these on our nose when they were more mature. For sure one of nature’s many engineering/design feats!

Nice photo of the whirlies! We have many of those seeds sprouting here. It seems to be much more than in prior years.

Each seed of maple tree has two wings. They are very impressive to see flying in the air.
